Unfair Return Policy
I am an expat living in The Gambia for the last three months. I am extremely dismayed at the obtuse behavior displayed by the manager of the flagship store on Khairaba Av. and the unfair return policy of this store. A few weeks ago I had attempted to exchange an unused recently purchased item. I was told that this was not possible. Stunned, I left with the D1850 loss. I returned today, Feb 7th, and purchased a small knife. At that time learned that they had a knife sharpener so I asked to exchange the knife for the sharpener and pay the difference. I had not left the store and the knife was still on the cashier’s counter. Upon hearing that this was not possible in such a seemingly harmless transaction, I called for the manager. She became confrontational immediately and accused me of being a trouble maker since I had previously requested an exchange. I failed to understand this mean-spirited bullying and I spent several minutes attempting to get this irate manager to accommodate my simple request. She talked over me and invited me to go wherever I wished with my complaint, so here I am. I am appalled at this policy in the Gambia where the Gambia consumer protection agency GCCPA has signage on Khairaba Av that states such policies are illegal. I would be interested in knowing whether I’m the only (former) Emporium customer with this experience of no exchange policy.
